A Mother's Trip across China in "Thanksgiving Cart"

On September 24 this year, two brothers, Kai Wang and Yue Wang, from Northeast China went on a trip to take their 78-year-old mother for a sight-seeing tour across China. Their trip was unique since they didn't take air plane, or train or bus. Instead, they went on foot.

They walked along the highway pulling a tricycle named "Thanksgiving Cart" in which was sitting their mother. The trip started from their hometown, Lanxi County, Hei Long Jiang Province, which is not far from China-Russia border.

Ten years earlier, the two bothers had seen on TV the news about someone riding a tricycle showing their mother around the country. Their mother expressed her wish to go on a trip like that some day. Although the two brothers had not retired yet by then and therefore had not been able to fulfill their mother's wish then, they remembered their mother's wish and .

Ten years later, when both brothers were retired and became available for the trip, they decided that it was about the time to make their mother's wish come true.

Instead of riding a tricycle to show their mother around the country, they decided to cover the journey on foot. So they built on a regular tricycle a wooden booth with a sliding window on each side (see picture above) and pulled the tricycle along the highway.

So far they have trveled over 3000 kilometers (1864.2 miles) and have been to 8 provinces. By December 13, they had reached Hunan Province. They are planning to take their mother to visit Hong Kong and Mocau. It will take them about ten months to reach there. Then they will turn back to walk north to Beijing in the hope to reach Beijing before the 2008 Olymic games starts.
